Love at 1,454 Feet: Daredevil Couple Get Engaged Atop the Empire State Building

By PiE Lifestyle

In one of the most daring proposals ever witnessed, a couple climbed to the very top of New York City’s iconic Empire State Building before getting engaged more than 1,454 feet (443 metres) above the streets of Manhattan.

Russian rooftoppers Angela Nikolau and Ivan “Vanya” Beerkus, known worldwide for their breathtaking urban climbs, scaled the building’s antenna spire without safety equipment. At the summit, they unfurled a black banner carrying the message:

“When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”

Moments later, as helicopters circled overhead and crowds watched from below, Ivan dropped to one knee and proposed. Angela accepted, and the pair embraced while standing atop one of the world’s most famous skyscrapers.

From Netflix to Real Life

The couple is no stranger to extraordinary heights. Angela and Ivan gained international recognition through the Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, which chronicles their passion for scaling some of the world’s tallest buildings and structures.

Romance Ends in Arrest

After climbing down from the spire, the couple was taken into custody by the New York Police Department. Authorities have charged them with offences including burglary, criminal trespassing and reckless endangerment, while investigators continue examining how they gained access to the restricted section of the landmark.
