Let that sink in, people. We live in a situation where it would be cheaper to fuel your car with Fanta Orange than it would be with petrol. Worse, diesel. And it doesn’t get better …it seems like we are heading for a further increase.
What you need to know
Well, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) shows that South Africa’s fuel prices have continued to increase, and that another massive hike is on the cards this October.
According to the CEF’s latest fuel price adjustment predictions as of the third week of September:
- Petrol 93 – increase of R2.38 per litre
- Petrol 95 – increase of R2.52 per litre
- Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – increase of R2.24 per litre
- Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) – increase of R2.61 per litre

Why?
Basically, Trump, the Middle East, Russia and Ukraine have all come together to take some more money from your pocket.
Okay, let’s get serious.
Why are you going through this?
Basically, Brent crude oil was trading at $90 per barrel on 31 August, which was already a massive jump from the $60 per barrel price point recorded at the beginning of 2026.
So, that’s a 50% increase since January.
And it gets worse.
As of last week, oil prices had skyrocketed to $107 per barrel because of a fresh wave of attacks launched between the United States and Iran.
So now?
Get that bicycle out. It’s actually good for you…
