We know and really like the iCAUR. I mean, how can you not like the iCAUR V23, the cute Jeep-looking EV?
Well, we have a new one coming…
What you need to know:
Engine
Well, there is a new iCAUR — the 03T REEV — which will get here in the fourth quarter.
The 03T REEV pairs an electric motor with a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine that functions strictly as a generator. The electric motor powers the rear wheels directly, while the petrol engine kicks in to top up the battery on the go.
Performance:
185 kW and 300 Nm of torque.
iCAUR claims a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h.
Charging
Now, there is always a question when it comes to EVs:
Can I charge at home? Where can I charge? What if I run out of ESKOM?
Well, the answer is simple: you have a generator in the car.
And if you do want to charge the battery, charging flexibility is built in, supporting both AC and DC fast charging.
On AC power, the system accepts up to 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging enables a 30–80% charge in around 20 minutes, under optimal conditions.
The Car
It’s bigger than the V23, but keeps the muscular, blocky proportions and flared arches of its fully electric sibling.
It also uses an all-aluminium body, which provides torsional stiffness of 31,812 Nm/deg, while reducing body weight by more than 30% compared with a conventional steel structure.
The five-seater SUV rides on 19-inch wheels, with power delivered to the rear axle.
Interior
Well, expect the usual “fill it to the brim with tech” approach.
There’s a 9.2-inch digital driver display, an eight-speaker iCAUR sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 50 W wireless phone charger, and four-zone voice-command technology.
Guys, it also comes with leather upholstery and ventilated, power-adjustable front seats.
On the safety and assistance front, the SUV gets adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning and a 540-degree panoramic camera view.
Pricing
Pricing and specifications will be confirmed closer to launch, but a little birdie told us prices will be around R640 000 – R690 000.
Verdict
What we like about iCAUR is that it gives buyers an accessible entry point into electrified motoring — and does it in a very stylish way.
These cars are good-looking. They separate themselves from the rest.
I mean, let’s be honest: almost every car now has a singular light bar at the back, everything is rounded off, and they’re all starting to look similar.
We like what iCAUR is doing.
