PARIS MOTOR SHOW

AUDI TT CONCEPT

By THATCAR.co.za

Like fashion, every year, different fashion houses come together in Paris to show off thin people wearing the most outrageous outfits and hats, while even thinner people sit there saying things like, “Genius!”

You look at someone wearing what appears to be a pair of pyjamas and ask yourself, “How are those pyjamas genius?”

Well, the car industry does the same thing.

You get guys in beautiful suits, with great hair, coming out on stage and telling you about “the future of automobiles”, “our vision” and all that jazz.

And then, voilà! A car that looks like it was designed by your seven-year-old is revealed.

Most of the time, it’s the first and last time you ever see that car.

You ask yourself, why? Why don’t they just show us what’s coming next year and call it a day?

Like you, I’ve pondered this for a long time, especially the part where thin people gush over an even thinner person wearing pyjamas.

I’ve come to sort of understand why they do it.

(Still don’t understand the fashion thing, though.) 😂

But I’m getting to grips with the motor-show concept.

Basically, it’s the manufacturers saying, “Look at what we could do!”

And quite often, elements of those concept cars eventually make their way into production models.

Take the original Audi TT concept and the production Audi TT, for example.

So, let’s look at this year’s Paris Motor Show.

And we have to give it to the Stellantis Group — they came out guns blazing!

There were plenty of interesting cars, but this year, Stellantis really caught our attention.

Here are our favourite concepts.

And when we say favourites, understand that we mean the ones we liked most. There were more, but we don’t want you spending five days reading one article, now do we?

Enough yada-yada.

More ta-da! Let’s check them out.

1.   THE ALFA ROMEO CUOREROSSO V6

This is being presented as a potential successor to the Alfa Romeo Giulia.

It’s a 2+2 coupé, slightly longer and wider than the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, while retaining four doors.

In other words, it looks like Alfa Romeo is exploring how to carry the Giulia’s sporting character into its next chapter.

And honestly, an Alfa Romeo with a V6 and those Italian looks?

You already have our attention. 🇮🇹

THE CITROËN 2CV

Recognisable, right?

It looks like something familiar, doesn’t it?

Well, Google the original Citroën 2CV, and you’ll see the inspiration behind this modern reinterpretation.

The original was a motoring icon, known for its simplicity and practicality. This new take brings that heritage into the modern era, albeit as a fully electric concept.

Citroën, we owe you an apology for not buying enough of your cars in South Africa.

Bring this here, and we promise we’ll start buying!

THE PEUGEOT RCZ CONCEPT

We’ve seen the RCZ before, remember?

It looked like an Audi TT that had eaten a couple of baguettes.

And we mean that as a compliment!

Now Peugeot appears to be exploring the idea again with a new concept, seemingly looking to challenge the TT-inspired coupé formula.

Peugeot has been on fire lately, and we’re keen to see what comes of this one.

Speaking of Peugeot, keep an eye out for our 2.2-litre diesel Peugeot Landtrek review.

We’ve got some great surprises in store for that one.

STELLANTIS, WELCOME BACK! 🇫🇷🇮🇹

We’ll keep updating you throughout the week with more from the Paris Motor Show.

We mean the cars, of course.

We’ll leave the pyjamas to the fashion people.
