Last year, Jaguar launched a campaign that drove the world absolutely crazy.
Absolutely.
Let me tell you, if you lived under a rock…
Jaguar stopped producing most of its cars in 2024, with the last SVR produced in 2025.
Then, to add salt to the wound, they came up with a concept car and advert that created so much talk, it would make Kim Kardashian jealous.
Basically, Jaguar decided:
“That’s it. We’re going left.”
As in, we’re no longer making beautiful, powerful petrol cars.
We’re going fully electric.
But what was Jaguar supposed to do?
You were all saying:
“Jaag is unreliable.”
“Jaag is slow.”
“Jaaaag is an old man’s car.”
“Jaag this, Jaag that…”
And you didn’t buy them.
Then, when they take a completely different route, you come back with:
“Jaaaag advert this.”
“Jaag that.”
“Blah, blah, blah.”
Well…
Jaguar decided to take the left turn.
And launched the TYPE 01.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Type 01 is a 750 kW, four-door, all-aluminium GT saloon.
And it’s 5.2 metres long.
Yes. 5.2 meters

DESIGN
It’s beautiful.
OK, I’m sure you need more information than that.
It’s long, low and suave, with massive 23-inch wheels.
The sheer length of the car gives it a bold, luxurious presence, while the slim headlights and rear lighting add to that whole “I have arrived” look.
There’s no traditional rear window, with a rear pillar giving the Type 01 an even more dramatic profile.
It also gets frameless doors, with brass detailing incorporating Jaguar’s famous Leaper motif along and inside the body.
Basically…
It looks nothing like a Jaaaag.

POWER
The Type 01 produces a whopping 750 kW and around 1,000 Nm of torque.
The official WLTP range is 700 km, although Jaguar engineers say it will sustain highway speeds for around 510 km.
It can also charge at up to 350 kW, allowing up to 321 km of range to be added in around 30 minutes.
And then there’s the important bit:
0–100 kph in 3.2 seconds.
So, yeah…
Slow Jaaaag?

AERODYNAMICS
The long, low Type 01 is claimed to be the most aerodynamic production Jaguar yet.
Its 0.23 Cd drag coefficient comfortably beats the previous best from the late-model XF, which managed 0.25 Cd.
So it doesn’t just look fast.

PRICE
Well, we can only predict for now.
Based on the UK starting price of around £120,000, we’re expecting something in the region of R2.5 million when it eventually reaches South Africa.

VERDICT
We have always loved a Jaaaag.
And after all the drama, the controversy, the adverts, the memes and the complaints…
We still do.
Jaguar has taken a massive left turn.
Whether you like the direction or not, you have to admit…
They’ve got our attention.
WELCOME BACK, JAAAAG. 🐆
First cars are expected to be delivered in February next year.
