BACK TO THE FUTURE

When I was growing up, we dreamt of the future where cars could talk to you and have a relationship with you. Heck, there was a show in which the car was a character in the movie: a black car with some laser thing at the front. This car even had a name: KITT.

Its driver was Michael Knight

This car could come to the Hoff (the other character was a lanky, perm-wearing male, David Hasselhoff, hence “the Hoff”). The car… yes, the car, could talk, could drive itself. Could it fly? I think it could. It could do everything!

Then there was one that could take you back in time and/or to the future, and could fly. Both had lanky, perm-wielding males.

So, what has this got to do with anything?

Well…

I think we are in the future. Why?

Cars can talk.

Cars can drive themselves to you. You don’t believe me? Google is your friend, my friend.

Now, TESLA!

Tesla has a flying car… YES! I swear by the moon, the stars and the sky! (Ignore me, please.)

Let me give you the info.

The Tesla Roadster

Well, this white two-seater vehicle, developed in collaboration with CEO Elon Musk’s rocket company, SpaceX, drove upside down on a ramp using a suction system, turned in the air and landed using built-in thrusters.

Later in the event, it used the thrusters to jump over a truck and other vehicles, twisting in the air during the manoeuvre. I suppose this was to brag and say, “Check how big my air flips are!” and show the middle finger to the car world.

Has it worked? I suppose!

I don’t want to talk about Musk’s intentions, besides the middle finger, but I want to concentrate on the car.

Well, the car did wonders: 0–100 km/h in a second! (But I bet every time you do that, you will see what colour your breakfast was. There is no way you can avoid puking at such speeds.)

You want some of the action? Well, the “Thrust” version, with “acceleration thrusters”, requires a $250,000 deposit.

We can’t tell you the price.

What do I think?

Well, America had to retaliate. China has been showing us weird and wonderful cars: cars that jump over potholes (the BYD U9), cars that can swim (the BYD U8), and cars at a fraction of the price.

So, I’m not impressed.

Furthermore, this is more strategic for Musk, bringing SpaceX and Tesla together.

So, let’s wait and see if it does come to the market, what it will cost, and what the Chinese will do in retaliation.

I think we live in the future…

But DOES THIS MEAN MEN WILL START PERMING THEIR HAIR AGAIN?
