Alright, on a serious note, it might seem as if we’re constantly featuring Chinese brands, but that’s because almost every week there is a new car coming from them.
And they keep coming with new, bigger and better features, to the point where you simply can’t ignore them.
What is it?
There is a new GWM Haval — the Haval H7 — which we should get here in about a week’s time.
It will come with three powertrains and, as usual, a host of features.
What you need to know
Shape
This is one of the best-looking Havals, in our view.
It has a boxy shape and square lights, which, in our view, is always a good start.
You don’t believe us?
Look at the T2, the Discovery 4 — how about the Toyota Cressida?

Engines
The new Haval H7 will be available with a choice of three powertrains, namely:
- Turbocharged petrol
- Traditional hybrid electric vehicle (HEV)
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)
GWM hasn’t told us exactly what we’re getting yet, but a little birdie did whisper to us that we might see a 2.0-litre engine producing around 170 kW.
There could also be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 1.53 kWh battery pack, producing 182 kW and 540 Nm of torque.
Then there’s the PHEV, using the same 1.5-litre engine but with a larger battery, producing 240 kW and 540 Nm of torque.
Pricing
Again, we don’t have an official price as yet, but budget for somewhere around R600,000 for the entry-level model, going up to about R750,000 for the top-spec version.
Verdict
We simply like the looks.
We’ll wait for GWM to give us an opportunity to test one, but for now…
